This post is the result of an investigation for a friend into how to get an Indian IP address for Star Sports, who is currently working in Raleigh in North Carolina. Now I don’t know if you’ve experienced this but being a cricket fan in the USA can get quite frustrating, it doesn’t really make even obscure late night sports channels. You would think that the internet would be a saviour, yet that’s not quite true either because trying to access Cricket online is difficult too although Indian IPTV USA is a possibility if you know how.
There are of course plenty of resources online which cover cricket, unfortunately the vast majority are usually limited to domestic connections. This means that although the games are broadcast online, you need to be in the same country to access them. The cricket coverage in the UK is fantastic but you can’t access Test Match Special and the cricket coverage on Sky or Channel 4 from outside the UK.
India is of course, utterly cricket mad and the best online resource for this is Star Sports, but this is the message you get if you access from outside India.
Accessing Indian IPTV USA
What happens is that when you attempt to start the video the website looks up the location of your IP address, if it’s not an Indian one then you’ll get this message. The IP address is assigned by wherever you connect to the internet from, unfortunately you can’t change this address at all.
However there is hope for people who want to watch Indian IPTV like this from outside India and you can see it in action here.
As you can see, although you can’t change your IP address you can hide it behind an intermediate server. By creating something called a VPN (Virtual Private network) connection between you and the server you can create the illusion that you are actually connecting from India. The tricky bit is finding a VPN service which has server’s based in India but there are a few.
When the Hotstar site sees the inbound connection, it detects the IP address of the VPN server not your real one. In the example video the server is based in New Delhi, so the address is registered in India and all websites in India will work perfectly.
Remember you need to disconnect from the server after you’ve finished or all your browsing will be based around Indian results. For example Google will presume you’re in India too and will deliver appropriate search results, if you search for a plumber you’ll get ones listed in New Delhi not North Carolina!
These geo-restrictions are becoming more and more common, and nowadays investing in a VPN service is pretty much essential for accessing sites if you travel to any extent. The good news is that most of the best ones have access to servers in lots of different countries, so you only need to subscribe to one. Not only will most allow Indian IPTV USA but will unlock channels all over the world.
Using the Overplay service featured above you can use it to access sites all over the world. If you get tired of the Indian cricket coverage then just switch to a UK server and listen to it on the BBC. The BBC iPlayer site is well worth checking out as well with several channels packed full of all sorts of programmes, documentaries, dramas and news shows of the highest quality – just use a UK server instead on the Indian one.
There’s not many VPN services which have Indian servers included in their normal subscription, however fortunately one of the best does.
Try out Smart DNS for 14 Days to watch any Indian IPTV or Star Sports.
